Pee Dee Healthcare Coalition

How we came to be...

Following the events of 9/11, South Carolina introduced regional planning groups to enhance public health response capabilities. Originally, the Pee Dee area was part of Regions 4 and 6. In 2013, state planners reorganized the regional boundaries, merging Regions 4 and 6 into a single entity known as the Pee Dee Healthcare Coalition.

Since its formation, the Pee Dee Healthcare Coalition has evolved into an effective support system for both healthcare and first-response efforts. It serves as a critical adjunct to the local and regional healthcare delivery systems in the Pee Dee area.

The Pee Dee Healthcare Coalition brochure outlines the coalition's crucial role in fostering collaborative networks among healthcare organizations and partners across Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, and other counties. It highlights their commitment to preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities to ensure effective disaster operations in healthcare settings.

Values & Guiding Principles

Values

  1. Collaboration: We believe in the power of working together. Every member, from small clinics to large hospitals, contributes valuable perspectives that enhance our collective response capabilities.

  2. Excellence: We strive for the highest standards in healthcare delivery and emergency responsiveness, ensuring that our practices and procedures reflect the latest in medical and operational advancements.

  3. Compassion: At the heart of our mission is a commitment to the well-being of our community. We approach each challenge with empathy, prioritizing the health and safety of the individuals we serve.

  4. Accountability: We hold ourselves responsible for the outcomes of our actions and policies. Transparency and responsibility guide our decisions and operations.

  5. Innovation: We continuously seek innovative solutions to complex health challenges, embracing technology and creative strategies to improve our services and responses.

Guiding Principles

  1. Unified Response: We operate under a unified command system that allows for efficient decision-making and resource allocation during health emergencies.

  2. Community Engagement: We actively engage with community members and organizations to ensure that our plans and actions reflect the needs and insights of the populations we serve.

  3. Sustainability: Our strategies and solutions are designed to be sustainable, ensuring long-term health security and resilience for our region.

  4. Continuous Improvement: We commit to ongoing assessment and refinement of our practices. Learning from past experiences, we adapt and evolve to meet emerging health challenges.

  5. Equitable Service Delivery: We ensure that all communities within the Pee Dee region have equal access to healthcare resources and emergency services, addressing disparities and promoting fairness in healthcare delivery.

  1. Coordination of Resources: The coalition is expected to effectively manage and coordinate healthcare resources across the region. This includes the distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and personnel, especially during emergencies or disasters.

  2. Emergency Preparedness and Response: Developing and implementing comprehensive emergency preparedness plans is a central role. The coalition should conduct regular training sessions, simulations, and drills to ensure that all member organizations are prepared to respond efficiently and collaboratively to health crises.

  3. Information Sharing and Communication: Ensuring timely and accurate communication among coalition members is vital. The coalition should facilitate the exchange of information regarding threats, incidents, and best practices. This also includes maintaining open lines of communication with public health authorities, emergency management agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.

  4. Training and Education: Providing ongoing training and educational opportunities for healthcare providers and first responders is crucial. This could include specialized training in disaster medicine, triage procedures, and mass casualty management.

  5. Community Outreach and Public Education: Engaging the community through educational programs about health emergencies, prevention strategies, and response activities is an essential service. This helps in building community resilience and preparedness.

  6. Integration of Services: The coalition should work towards integrating various health services to ensure a seamless response during emergencies. This includes linking hospitals, primary care, mental health services, and specialty care providers.

  7. Support to Smaller Facilities: Offering support to smaller and rural healthcare facilities that might not have the same level of resources as larger hospitals is an important function. This can include providing access to expert consultations, equipment sharing, and staffing support.

  8. Performance Evaluation: Regularly assessing the performance of emergency plans and the effectiveness of response efforts to continuously improve processes and outcomes.
